I've never been good at surrender.

Every cell in my body would rage at the idea of letting go thinking that waving that white flag was the ultimate in defeat.

Blame my fiery Aries Sun or the wild Canadian blood that is coursing through my veins, but letting go to me was losing.

It took me many years to realize that surrender isn't defeat.

Sometimes surrender is the only way to win.

Sometimes you have to let go to get everything you want.

Sometimes release is the only way to let what you actually want flow in.

Sometimes holding on is putting blocks in a path that would clear itself if we would step out of the way.

Sometimes we don't know the best road and our limiting beliefs create huge walls for us.

Sometimes saying to hell with something and letting go of it isn't losing; it's choosing YOU.

It's saying yes to you, yes to your worth, to your time and to your sanity.

Letting go completely is sometimes the strongest thing we will ever do.

It is powerful and it is reclaiming shattered pieces of ourselves back in the name of us, even if at the time it feels like we are falling apart worse than ever.

Everything must dissolve in order for rebirth to occur.

Caterpillars, Phoenix's and us.

Sometimes we are led to the place of surrender through the dark night of the soul.

It can be hard amidst the confusion to know what to even let go of especially when we feel the shadows licking at our heels and feel all of the muck surrounding us growing.

The time of chaos and shade is actually the perfect birthing place for the surrender that is to come. Much like the nest of the Phoenix we gather the pieces of the old that will fuel a rebirth when we release into the flames.

We know instinctively that we need to give up what is no longer serving us in order for what is meant for us to come.

At the end of the darkness we reach a place where we are coming apart at the seams and the pressure of being done becomes too much.

We begin to split open.

We want so much for the new, the illumination, the freedom to come in, we hardly see it coming through the cracks that are forming.

But there they are offering a glimmer of what is to come through the opening and they are telling us the only way to hold on is to shatter completely.

The illumination we seek is found when we let go completely.

Sometimes all that we are looking for is on the other side of complete surrender.
