What is a Deja Vu?
Deja vu is French for "already seen". This implies a feeling that the event, conversation or emotion that one is experiencing has been experienced before. It can be a faint recollection or a bone deep knowing.
Many of the moments of recognition that I have seem to be centered on past dreams that I could never explain. Moments occurring deep in the night that held very little significance or explanation at the time which were resurrected in a moment of connection. Were they messages? Premonitions? Were they a reminder of an incident that had occurred before? Some loop playing in the human brain trying to make sense of everyday events?
Ever the analyst, it became a game of sorts to see beyond the moment.
I trained myself to become more aware in the instant of deja vu of everything occurring for me at the moment. Once the trigger had occurred flooding me with that deja vu awareness, I tapped into the feelings, thoughts, environment or anything else that I could absorb at that time. A colorful grouping of plants. A conversation that was unfolding in a certain way. I paid attention, trying to decipher any additional clues that could be here that could help explain why the message held such resonance. How was I feeling? What song was playing? And most importantly, what happened next?
There was a deeper connection occurring, whether I understood it fully or not.
I have known many to experience the phenomenon, but each have their own little nuances. Some draw a connection to sound or to smell. Others through dreams or waking visions. Deja vu doesn't seem to be going anywhere, it will continue to bring us insight and clarity. What we do with the information is up to us.
