The phrase “keep it light” has been on my mind a lot lately.
We live in a society where we’re taught to believe we should keep things light, airy, upbeat and quite frankly easily digestible at all times.
Conversations, relationships, feelings, and attitudes are expected to be light and fluffy.
We avoid the meaty morsels and side step them in favor of something easier to take, something that we can ingest quickly and skip to the next chapter.
When did going deep get such a bad rap?
What about getting messy, diving beneath the surface, and getting disheveled?
Getting unglued, uncomfortable, and loud.
When you get down to the nitty gritty, that’s where the treasure is; the big fish and the nuggets of divine truth.
This is where the nourishing roots dwell, in the unseen below, tangled in the nurturing soil.
It can be a question of surrender to something darker and less explored that keeps us clinging to the surface.
It can be conditioning which hammers away at us telling us that in the depths there is more than we should dig into.
We should leave alone what we don’t understand and skim along the top.
It can be whispers telling us that we don’t deserve the richness that glimmers beneath the waves and we shy away.
I don’t want a compressed light and fluffy life; I am not a pancake.
Like a rich, decadent dark chocolate cake, I want full bodied depth and lots of delicious, textured layers.
How deep do you want to go?
What is calling you from the depths to be touched?
Do you feel the longing from the deep to swim downwards into the unknown?
On what weeds are you getting tangles in on your dive down?
We’ve been coming face to face with a lot of energy that has shifted our focus to the areas of our world in which we are moving deeper, things unexpressed and things that have been uncovered until now.
We’re seeing where the yearning lives to pull us under the covers, beneath the waves and past the places where easy going conformity lives. We’re seeing where we’re done being surface dwellers wading in shallow waters.
We are hearing the call of the deep; and we are listening.
This is a time of travelling the pathways that lead beyond the comfortable and stretch us in a dance that borders on the knife edge of insanity and ecstasy.
This is expansion and she is a dark mistress that has seduced our souls bewitching us in the direction of the true and transparent authenticity that lives in the depths.
Do not fear the dark, she whispers. This is where seeds grow and gold is buried.
I’m not saying do away with all the light; it’s fine sometimes and just what the doctor ordered.
But we’re explorers on this Earthly journey, so from time to time the surface must be penetrated as we dig for much deeper and more valuable treasure.
